Larissa Cunha

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1997. Since 2021, she studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Flute Chair with professor Jacques Zoon. She has been granted scholarships by MAEC/AECID and Fundación Albéniz.

She began her flute studies in 2004 with a private teacher and in 2005 she joined the São Paulo Tom Jobim State Music School, where she completed her basic musical training. In 2015 she began a degree in flute with Sarah Hornsby at São Paulo State University. After furthering her training with other flautists of her country, she has attended masterclasses by Joan Enric Lluna and Pirmin Grehl, among others, and has participated in an encounter with Paul Varoch.

From March 2014 until November 2015, she worked as an intern in the São Paulo Youth Symphony Band. She was awarded the first prize in the Young Soloist Competition in BJESP (2015), which led her to perform as soloist at Sala SP. She participated in two editions of Prelúdio, a TV Cultura show. She won the Young Soloists Competition of the Orquestra Experimental de Repertório in 2018, which allowed her to perform a solo at the Teatro Municipal de São Paulo. In 2020, she obtained the third position among twenty flautists at the 1st Jean Noël Saghaard Competition (a national competition promoted by “Flauta em Foco” and “ABRAF”) in which she was awarded with a course in career enhancement with André Meneghello and cash prize. She was a flautist with the Orchestra Experimental de Repértorio from 2016 until 2021. Likewise, she has participated in several Brazilian festivals with internationally renowned musicians like Emmanuel Pahud, Vincet Lucas, Benoît Fromanger, and Eyal Ein-Habar, among others.

As a student of the School, she has performed with the Sinfonietta, under the baton of Johannes Kalitzke; with the Baroque Ensemble of the School, conducted by Paul Goodwin, as well as within the World Heritage Cities series in Salamanca. In 2021, she participated in the 30th anniversary tour of the School with the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada, with whom she performed at Madrid's Teatro Real, at Bratislava's Reduta Hall, at Budapest's Liszt Ferenc Academy and at Vienna's Musikverein. She has been a member of the Barroco and Telemann ensembles and of the Cosan Quintet.
